Dudhsagar Falls also known as the Sea of Milk is referred to as India’s highest waterfalls which is approximately 310 meters high and 30 meters wide. It is located on the Mandovi River in the state of Goa. You can reach these falls by road as they are 60 km from the Panjim city.

The princess was embarrassed by her scant attire, but her helpers poured the milk in a cascade in front of her. As a result, they created a curtain behind which the princess could wear her clothes. The cascade of milk which thus preserved the modesty of the princess, came to mean another name for Dudhsagar Falls.

Tapovan Trek https://themapexplorer.com/product/tapovan-trek/ https://themapexplorer.com/product/tapovan-trek/#comments Fri, 21 Jul 2023 12:23:31 +0000 https://themapexplorer.com/?post_type=product&p=5733 Overview

Tapovana comes from the two root words tapas, meaning ‘penance’ and by extension ‘religious mortification’ and ‘austerity’, and more generally ‘spiritual practice’, and vana, meaning ‘forest’ or ‘thicket’. Tapovana then translates as ‘forest of austerities or spiritual practice’. Though pronounced the same in Hindi, tapovana should not be confused with tapovan (from tapovat), which means a person engaged in austerity.

Traditionally in India, any place where someone has engaged in serious spiritual retreat may become known as a tapovana, even if there is no forest. As well as particular caves and other hermitages where sages and sadhus have dwelt, there are some places, such as the western bank of the northern Ganges river around Rishikesh, that have been so used by hermits that the whole area has become known as a tapovana.

Kedartal (also known as Shiva’s lake) is a glacial lake situated at an altitude of 4,750 metres (15,580 ft) in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas in India. The lake is fed by the snowfall over Thalay Sagar (6,904 m), Meru (6,672 m), Bhrigupanth (6,772 m) and other surrounding peaks, and is the source of Kedar Ganga, which in Hindu mythology is considered to be Shiva’s contribution to Bhagirathi (a source-stream of the Ganges).

Kedartal, at a distance of 17 km from Gangotri, is a popular trekking destination. Starting from Gangotri the route involves a steep rocky climb along the narrow Kedar Ganga gorge en route to Bhojkharak, 8 km away. From there it is 4 km to the next available camping site of Kedarkharak, and a further 5 km to Kedartal. The route passes through scenic Himalayan birch forests, but is made hazardous in places by falling rocks, high altitude and segments of steep ascent.

Gomukh is mentioned in the Puranas. It is said there that, searching a lost sheep, a boy reached near a glacier in Gangotri, the snout of which exactly looked like the face of a Cow, and thus it got its name ‘Gomukh’ . From then many holy saints, sages, sadhus, hermits, adventure seekers, as well as religious people and adventure seekers also went there to worship the place. It is also rumored that, if anyone visits Gomukh / Gawmukh with evil intentions or polluted body or mind, his ancestors fall in Burning Hell and that person experiences grave horrors and deep melancholy surrounds him.
